Position Summary / Purpose of Role

Assetinsure primarily operates in Australia and New Zealand and is an important member of a global insurance network of specialty insurance providers which has a footprint across South Africa, the UK and Europe.
The growth of our Claims function has created an exciting opportunity for a Motor Claims Team Leader to join our team.
Role summary:
The Claims Team Leader is a fixed term contract position for 12 months with a possibility to extend reporting to the Head of Claims within the Risk Partners business unit. This role leads a high-performing Motor Claims team responsible for managing the full end-to-end claims lifecycle—from lodgement through to repair, recovery, and settlement. The Team Leader plays a critical role in coaching and developing team members, ensuring compliance with internal processes and industry regulations, and driving performance to achieve service and operational targets. The role fosters a culture of continuous improvement and customer excellence, aligned with our organisational values and strategic objectives.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Lead, support, and motivate a team of Claims Controllers to achieve key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational goals.
- Monitor individual and team performance through clear expectation setting, regular coaching, and formal performance reviews.
- Manage escalated matters and customer complaints, including the preparation of AFCA submissions and formal written responses.
- Analyse team and claims performance data to identify trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to resolve claims issues, support cross-functional initiatives, and enhance claims processes.
- Make critical decisions on complex claims matters, including settlement approvals and policy-based determinations, in line with regulatory and internal guidelines.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to build claims decision-making and problem-solving capability within the team.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory obligations, legal requirements, and company policies and procedures.
- Manage a small portfolio of complex or high-value motor claims, demonstrating technical leadership and best-practice handling.
Skills and attributes
- Proven experience in insurance claims, with strong knowledge of general insurance policies, claims processes, and applicable legislation and codes (e.g., GICOP).
- Demonstrated leadership experience, with a focus on coaching, capability building, and team development.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to identify trends and implement performance improvements.
- Confident and clear communicator, able to influence and manage internal and external stakeholders effectively.
- Calm and adaptable under pressure, with a solutions-focused and customer-centric approach.
- Experience in managing complaints and escalations, with a clear understanding of dispute resolution processes.
- Competent in Microsoft 365 applications, particularly Word and Excel, for reporting, analysis, and communication.
