Specialist Support Services
At times, life can feel overwhelming. If you’re experiencing personal hardship, emotional stress, or difficult life circumstances, you’re not alone. There are free and confidential, support services available across Australia to help you when you need it most.
We’ve compiled a list of national support services below, including help with financial counselling, mental health, family violence, legal issues, and more. You don’t need to contact us to access these services, but if you would prefer to speak to someone from our team, we’re here to help too.
Communication Support
Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS National)
Free interpreter support in over 150 languages, available 24/7.

If you need help understanding something we’ve sent you or want to talk about your policy or claim in your preferred language, you can ask for an interpreter through TIS National.
National Relay Service (NRS)
A free service to help people who are d/Deaf, hard of hearing, or have a speech impairment to
communicate over the phone. Available 24/7.

Financial Counselling
National Debt Helpline
Free, independent financial counselling for managing bills, debt, or financial stress.

They can help you understand your rights, work through your options, and talk to creditors if you’re feeling overwhelmed by debt.
Legal Support
National Legal Aid
Provides access to free or low-cost legal advice across civil, family, and criminal law.

Legal Aid services are available in every state and territory and can help with things like disputes, family violence orders, or housing issues.
Mental Health Support
Beyond Blue
Support for anxiety, depression, and mental wellbeing. Available 24/7.

Trained First Nations staff offer culturally safe support around mental health and wellbeing.
Indigenous Consumer Assistance Network (ICAN)
Provides free, independent, and confidential consumer education, advocacy, and financial counselling services to Indigenous consumers across Australia.

ICAN assists with issues such as dealing with lenders, understanding consumer rights, and providing support to overcome financial stress and consumer-related challenges.

Need Help Managing Your Insurance?
If you’d prefer to have someone support you with your insurance—such as a friend, family member, financial counsellor, or case worker—you can nominate them to speak on your behalf.
To do this, please contact the usual customer service team for your insurance product. Depending on the type of support you need, this may be the team that handles your policy or your claim.
They will ask for a few details about the person you wish to nominate, such as
- Their name
- How they’ll be helping you
- How we can contact them
In some cases, you may be asked to confirm this in writing to help us protect your privacy and ensure your information is handled safely. You can change or remove a support person at any time.
